Yingxiu-Wenchuan Highway project is seven kilometers away from the epicenter of Wenchuan Earthquake occurred on May 12, 2008. Started in July 2009 and opened to traffic on November 23, 2012, the railway is 3.04-kilometer-long and Yingxiu Tunnel, core of the project, is 2.7-kilometer-long.

During the construction process of Yingxiu Tunnel, engineers faced huge challenges and construction risks of 86,403 aftershocks. For the people in the disaster area, the traditional construction method was replaced by the zero-interval construction method, and the post-disaster reconstruction work was completed on schedule. The Water Supply Device for Tunnel won the National Practical Model Patent Certificate and Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Creative Competition Award of Shanxi Province in 2011. The project was recorded in the “Pursuing Excellence and Achieving Glory” Sichuan Expressway Project Standard Construction and Fine Management Achievements Book in September 2012.?
