Located at the southwest mountainous area, the project is arduous and vast with steep terrain and complex geological conditions. It is known as the “Geological Encyclopedia” and is regarded as a model for building large-capacity railway trunk lines in complex geology and difficult mountainous areas in the 1990s. The project started in 1991 and has a total length of 899 kilometers. The survey and design services for the entire project are provided by CREC. The Jiazhujing Tunnel of the project won the National Excellent Design Copper Award in 2000 and the Kunming Hub of the project won the National Excellent Design Silver Award in 2002. The project has achieved major technical achievements in mountain railway construction and won the first prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award.
