On July 20, the final track-set T-beam was precisely hoisted into place, marking the completion of all beam installations for the Suifenhe Grand Bridge. The bridge is part of the Suifenhe-to-border section upgrade of the?Harbin–Suifenhe Railway, built by China Railway Sixth Group under CREC.
The Harbin–Suifenhe Railway connects Harbin with Suifenhe on the China-Russia border and has a history of over a century. It is Heilongjiang’s largest rail corridor for Russia-bound freight and serves as a key eastern passage for China–Europe freight trains. The newly installed Suifenhe Grand Bridge is 1,418.25 meters long and consists of 84 T-beams. To accommodate both domestic and international trains, the bridge features a dual-gauge design (standard and broad gauge). Each T-beam is 32 meters long, 2.45 meters wide, and weighs 184 tons, which are 50 tons heavier than conventional beams. It is marking China’s first use of such a non-standard track-set T-beam.
Upon completion, the upgrade of the Suifenhe–border section of the Harbin–Suifenhe Railway will increase train speeds from 55 to 120 km/h and double the line’s capacity. This will significantly boost cross-border transportation efficiency and railway safety, injecting fresh momentum into the high-quality development of the “Belt and Road”?Initiative.
